5 TOP TIPS FOR IMPROVING YOUR CLIMBING SKILLS AND BUILDING CONFIDENCE

Clip ‘n Climb Cambridge is a great activity, that everyone can get involved regardless of age, confidence or climbing experience. Walls like ‘Amazing’ and ‘Hexed’ are perfect for starting off to improve your climbing skills and build confidence. Our harder walls like ‘Triffid’ and ‘Orbital’ test the more experienced climbers. Competitive climbers can set their best time on ‘Speed Climb’ and race their friends on ‘Face to Face’.

What not everyone realises, is that there are 100s of different climbing challenges you can try. With every visit, you can achieve new heights at Clip ‘n Climb Cambridge!

Here are our 5 top tips for improving your climbing skills and building confidence:
1. Top Out Challenges

How many of our walls can you get to the top of? The more you practise, the more walls you’ll conquer.  Most of our walls are made up of multiple sections so if you can’t reach the top at first, keep a track of how many sections you reach and aim to get further every visit.

2. Points Challenges

Most of our walls have 3 set routes to get to the top. Details of these are at the bottom of the walls. You score 10, 15 or 20 points depending on the difficulty of the route. Count how many points you score over your session and then try and beat that the next time you climb.

3. Mountain Challenges

The Clip ‘n Climb Cambridge walls are on average 6 metres high. Can you work out what famous landmarks or mountains you have climbed the equivalent height of by keeping a score of the walls you’ve climbed?

Here are some examples:

  • Climb 4 walls to reach the height of Buckingham Palace which is 24 metres high
  • Big Ben – 96 metres = 16 walls
  • Eiffel Tower – 300 metres = 50 walls
  • Ben Nevis – 1,345 metres = 224 walls
  • Mount Everest – 8,849 m = 1,475 walls

Even if you don’t get to the top of a wall, you can still work out how high you climbed by working out if you get a quarter, half or three-quarters of the way up. Get a team score and get everyone in your group to count their climbs!

4. Speed Climb Challenge

Speed Climbing is part of Olympic climbing. Get set for Gold with your best time on our timed ‘Speed Climb’ walls. Race your friends to decide the medal positions. Record your times to reach the top and keep practising to get that down. Can you get under 30 seconds? 20 seconds? 10 seconds?

5. Triffid Challenge

The ‘Triffid’ is our hardest climbing wall with very few climbers able to reach the top. It looks like a giant beanstalk and is the ideal wall to keep track of your progress. Practice and work out your best route, and in time you’ll defeat the Triffid and reach the top!
